Beautiful antique Art Nouveau majolica iris vase dating to circa 1902-1903, attributed to Vance Faience Co. and Wheeling Pottery. The vase features a dramatic sculptural iris form with dimensional flowers and buds, sweeping green leaves, a soft blue background, and hand-painted gilt detailing. 🌷💐
This specific vase features a highly coveted, dual-factory "overstamp" mark on the base that captures the exact months of a historic corporate merger. The physical body was cast from the original independent Vance Faience Co. plaster mold (operating in Tiltonsville, Ohio from 1900–1902), leaving a deeply incised "VANCE F. CO. No. 134" mark.
When Wheeling Pottery absorbed the company in late 1902, factory workers utilized these premium legacy molds but stamped them with their own underglaze blue "THE WHEELING POTTERY CO." corporate ink mark prior to firing. Finding an intact example showing both competing factory marks seamlessly layered on top of each other is an absolute collector’s dream and a documented anomaly in Ohio River Valley ceramic history.
Antique item in excellent pristine condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs noted. Please review all pictures carefully, this would make an excellent addition to a collection.
