Beautiful very rare antique Lotus Ware porcelain puff box / trinket jar in a soft blush pink with delicate gold leaf and vine detailing. The lid is finished with an elaborate raised gold decoration in the center, giving the piece a really unique look. ✨
KT&K Lotus Ware is famous for having an unsustainable 90% breakage rate during its kiln firings. Because the bone porcelain was potted so thin and the 3D gold-molded branches were so heavy and complex, nine out of ten pieces cracked and were destroyed in the factory before they could ever be sold. A lidded piece surviving intact for 130 years is a literal statistical miracle. Because production costs skyrocketed and the kiln loss was so severe, KT&K discontinued the Lotus Ware line after a brief 4-year production run (1892–1896). It was never reproduced.

Antique condition with age related wear. The main porcelain body and lid base are free of cracks, structural breaks, or repairs. The gold leaf painting on the pink body is in excellent condition with minimal wear. Please note that the incredibly fragile 3D gold branch finial on top shows typical signs of age, including several small chips/flakes to the gold detailing that expose the white porcelain body beneath. Regardless it displays beautifully, and is in great condition. Please review all photos carefully.
